Look for patterns

Notice when your child is most engaged. Do pictures help explain a new idea? Does your child remember a song, ask to try it personally, or learn by talking through the steps?

Use more than one pathway

Pair a spoken direction with a demonstration. Add movement to a counting game. Invite a child to draw, build, explain, and act out the same idea.

Let the task guide the method

Different skills call for different experiences. Learning to balance requires movement; learning new words benefits from hearing and using language; spatial ideas become clearer with real objects.

Share observations with teachers

Families and educators may see different strengths in different settings. Comparing notes can reveal useful supports without limiting the child’s opportunities.
